National Library Week is this week through April 17. The theme this year for the Milwaukee Public Library system is "Communities Thrive @ Your Public Library." That theme is at the heart of the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation's plan to build Villard Square.
Villard Square will be the home of a new, state-of-the-art public library and it will be home for a community of "grand families" (grandparents raising grandchildren) living in the apartments above. The NWSCDC is grateful to have the Gorman Company developing the project and for the strong support of The City of Milwaukee.
Paula Kiely, City Librarian, celebrates National Library Week with an excellent essay about the future of public libraries in Milwaukee and Mayor Tom Barrett highlighted National Library Week in his most recent E-Newsletter The Barrett Report.
