The severe unemployment crisis that we face in Milwaukee shows no sign of relenting. Here, as across Wisconsin and the U.S. as a whole, it's almost impossible for job-seekers to find work.
The problem is most severe for young, urban African-Americans and Latinos. Today's massive job shortage, however, has left no group unscathed.
As individuals, cities, and states grapple with this crisis, the White House has called on local organizations across the country to come together to conduct a Community Jobs Forum.
The purpose of each Community Jobs Forum is to identify obstacles and opportunities "on the ground" that provide an avenue to increased job creation.
The following local organizations, in response to the White House request, have decided to hold a Community Jobs Forum on Wednesday, January 6, from 3.00 pm to 4.30 pm, at the Urban League (435 W. North Avenue).
Attached are the discussion questions that the White House has provided to guide us in holding this Forum and preparing a report.
We apologize for the short notice.
Because of the severity of our unemployment crisis and the urgent need to fashion solutions for creating more jobs, however, we hope you will find time on short notice to join us, share your insights, and offer your recommendations.
Here, again, are the details:
