About the Community Mapping tools
The Community Mapping Application provides an in-depth mapping system for Quality of Life issues in NWSCDC Communities. Currently for NSP2 and NSP4 only, Crime Incidents, DNS Service Requests, New Permits, New Recording Applications, and Building/Property Code Violations in these areas are tracked and searchable with date and category filters. Street views are provided for each item’s associated address. Items related each other by proximity (same address, same block) or updates to a single DNS record can also be displayed as a cluster. Property-related items are linked to their corresponding records in the DNS’s Neighborhood Services Search (NSS) and City Assessor’s database.
"graffiti" AND "villard"Wildcards and multiple operators can be used to build search queries using the Apache Lucene query parser syntax. Full documentation of its terms can be found here.
Note that your search queries will create output pages with addresses (URLs) that contain your search terms:
../community/map/incidents/search/"villard"+AND+"graffiti"
You can produce a search output page simply by typing your search query into the mapping application’s base URL.
Data Export and Live Feeds: You may render your search results (or any page in the mapping application) in three structured XML schemas (KML, Atom, and iCal) to import the data into other applications. Simply add .kml, .atom, or .ics to the end of the url:
../community/map/incidents/search/"villard"+AND+"graffiti".kml
../community/map/incidents/search/"villard"+AND+"graffiti".atom
../community/map/incidents/search/"villard"+AND+"graffiti".ics
Additional feed options are available through Feedburner, including a daily email digest of the latest incidents in the system.
Mini Map: You can quickly see the latest crime incident reports and reported property-related issues (i.e., building code violations, service requests, permit requests, and new owner registration activity) for the northwest side (NSP areas 2 and 4) here.
Additional NWSCDC area maps:
- Watch areas for public reporting of street and nuisance issues can be found at SeeClickFix.com for NSP 2 and NSP 4.
- Neighborhoods
- Police districts
- Aldermanic districts
Citywide Maps:
You may also view the City’s voting wards, neighborhoods, aldermanic and police districts as selectable layers on a single, larger map.
Police activity, in particular the most recent squad dispatch logs (calls for service), is mapped here.
Data Sources: The data being rendered on these maps is provided by the City of Milwaukee‘s Police Department (MPD) and Department of Neighborhood Services (DNS) via e-notify. SpotCrime.com, which aggregates MPD squad dispatch logs, is also used. Geographic boundary shapefile data is supplied by the City Information Technology Management Division (ITMD).
