Fall Leaf Pick Up

City of Milwaukee residents can start raking leaves into the curb lanes. Public Works crews have started collecting the leaves as of  Monday, October 11th. Residents can continue raking leaves into the street until November 15th. Leaves and brush are collected separately from garbage and composted which conserve natural resources while saving the City money. Residents are also encouraged to mulch leaves and leave grass clippings on the lawn.

Sanitation Services urges residents to do the following:

  • Do not put leaves in plastic bags
  • Put Halloween pumpkins in your green garbage cart or on a compost pile, not on leaf piles in the street
  • Please keep debris, such as flowers and vegetable plants, on top of your leaf piles at the curb
  • Do not put brush in the leaf piles
  • Keep piles away from sewer grates
  • Keep debris away from storm drains in the street.
  • Do not put plastic bags of leaves in the street. Empty them and put the empty plastic bags in the garbage. The leaves collected by the city are composted but plastic bags will not decompose.
  • Large amounts of branches should be piled away from overhanging trees. Call (414) 286-CITY (2489) for a special brush pickup
